Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
